The sedentary life style that comes with modern office work often causes movement pattern issues. Sitting in an office all day means you aren’t using your body very much. The lack of movement is what tends to cause the stiffness many experience and the poor movement that accompanies it.
Have you ever been told you have weak or “lazy” glutes and been given exercises that didn’t really change anything?Strengthening the glutes probably didn’t work due to their strength not being the issue, rather it being a problem with how you move.
This is where the beauty of the Dynamic Movement Skills system lies in that we can “re-program” how you move such that you move back from being anterior chain dominant to posterior chain dominant and engage the glutes, hamstrings and back musculature more effectively and, more importantly, in the correct sequence.
DMS stimulates the peripheral and central nervous systems. It aids in refining and developing neuro-muscular efficiency to change motor patterns and make movement more efficient. Developing neuro-muscular adaption to the stretch reflex enhances force and power generation.
Using movement re-patterning techniques, components of dynamic neuromuscular training and low level plyometrics the training uses the muscle stretch response to achieve rapid neuromuscular adaptation.
Working on improving gross motor skills the DMS training will improve
DMS training focuses on re-educating the neuro-muscular system to be able to react faster in dynamic situations. This is achieved by progressing through gradually more challenging movements in different planes of motion teaching the body to react to the external forces and accelerate or decelerate and redirect the forces whilst keeping correct neuro-muscular control of the knee, the area of common non-contact injury.
“I have been a long distance trail runner for a few years now and like any runner I am always looking to improve my running efficiency, increase speed and stay injury-free.
I have just completed the 6 week dynamic movement skills (DMS) course for runners with Colin, while also training for a trail marathon. Within a couple of weeks I could feel the benefits. I felt stronger, more agile and more efficient while running on the trails. There was a noticeable improvement in my speed and balance during the sessions with Colin, and I felt a greater engagement through my core, hips and glutes during my own training sessions.
During my introductory session, it was clear that there were some muscle imbalances and inefficiencies throughout my body. I was also considerably more dominant on my left leg than my right. I now feel these imbalances have been amended and I have managed to stay injury free during my marathon training.
If you are a runner seeking to improve efficiency, speed and performance, or if you simply want to improve balance, coordination and core control, I would highly recommend Colin and the DMS course.”
